The Morthered Village | National Perinatal Task Force
Detailed Information

Mission Statement: The Mothered Village is a Full Spectrum Doula Collective committed to providing comprehensive maternal healthcare advocacy services and support to BIOPIC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) mothers and families. Our mission is to empower, uplift, and unite communities by ensuring equitable access to culturally sensitive and holistic care throughout the perinatal journey. We strive to foster a nurturing, inclusive environment that celebrates the diversity and strength of BIOPIC families, while advocating for their rights and well-being.

Vision Statement: Our vision is to build a future where every BIOPIC mother and family receives the highest quality of maternal healthcare services and support, free from systemic biases and disparities. We envision a world where all individuals are empowered with knowledge, resources, and choices throughout their perinatal experience, leading to positive birth outcomes and healthier communities. The Mothered Village aims to be the leading advocate for maternal health equity, bridging gaps in access, representation, and support, while promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and empowerment.

Services Provided by The Mothered Village:

1. Physical and Emotional Safety: Providing a secure and comfortable physical environment. This includes facilities that are clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary safety measures such as proper lighting, emergency exits, and sanitation protocols. We create a non-judgmental and empathetic atmosphere where pregnant individuals feel supported and understood. This is achieved through counseling services, mental health support, and peer support groups.

2. Birth Doula Support: Our doulas provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to BIOPIC mothers during pregnancy, labor, and birth. They work collaboratively with healthcare providers to ensure a positive and empowering birthing experience.

3. Postpartum Doula Care: Our postpartum doulas offer compassionate assistance to mothers and families during the crucial postpartum period. They provide practical support, newborn care guidance, breastfeeding support, and emotional well-being assistance to help families navigate the challenges of early parenthood.

4. Breastfeeding Support: We offer lactation consulting services to support breastfeeding mothers. Our certified lactation consultants provide personalized guidance, troubleshooting, and encouragement to ensure successful breastfeeding journeys.

5. Childbirth Education: The Mothered Village conducts comprehensive childbirth education classes that are culturally sensitive and inclusive. These classes empower expectant parents with knowledge about the birthing process, pain management techniques, informed decision-making, and strategies for a positive birth experience.

6. Perinatal Mental Health Support: Our team of volunteer perinatal mental health specialists offer counseling and therapy services to address the emotional well-being of BIOPIC mothers and families. We provide a safe space to discuss and manage perinatal mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges or moms are referred out.

7. Advocacy and Education: The Mothered Village actively advocates for policy changes and improvements in maternal healthcare systems to address disparities faced by BIOPIC communities. We conduct educational workshops, seminars, and community outreach programs to raise awareness and empower individuals to become advocates for themselves and their communities.

8.Continuity of Care: We strive to assist with continuity of care throughout the perinatal period. This means providing consistent care doing pregnancy through the postpartum period, as well as facilitating appropriate referrals.

9. Community Building: We foster a supportive and nurturing community by organizing support groups, social events, and networking opportunities for BIOPIC mothers and families. These gatherings create spaces for sharing experiences, building friendships, and providing ongoing support beyond the perinatal period. Through these services and our commitment to cultural competence, The Mothered Village aims to create a transformative impact on maternal healthcare, ultimately striving for healthier, happier, and more resilient BIOPIC mothers, families, and communities.
